Palm Oil – The Silent Killer

Palm oil is cheap and used in thousands of everyday products. It is the most widely consumed vegetable oil on the planet [1]. However, a massive area of the rain forest has cut down or burn to make way for palm plantation. So why this oil is still so cheaply and readily available?
There are two types of Palm oil production as crude palm oil and palm kernel oil. The crude palm oil comes from squeezing the fleshy fruit, and palm kernel oil which comes from crushing the kernel, or the inert part of the fruit. According to the statistics, of total world production, 5% is used for biofuels, 24% for cosmetics, and 71% by the food industry [2].
